“More than painting. I immerse myself in my studio for long stretches at a time, experiencing a new-found freedom to combine my enjoyment of the outdoors and my passion for the creation of something beautiful that requires viewer engagement to find the meaning in the abstraction. After decades of coloring within the lines, my art reflects a kaleidoscope of opportunity to explore my previously unnurtured raw talent. My work allows me to walk on the beach in Florida while in my studio in Ohio.”
Susan Williams is an architect- turned- artist whose return to painting marks a new chapter after an extensive career in hospital architecture. Her work explores the fluidity and movement of paint through vibrant color, layered texture, and unexpected materials. The contrast between the absence of visible brushstrokes and the incorporation of shells, fabric, and crinkled paper creates a dynamic three-dimensional quality—an echo of her years shaping physical space as an architect.
Susan holds a Master of Architecture from the College of Fine Arts at Clemson University, where access to fine arts courses allowed her to experiment across mediums and reconnect with her creative roots. She previously earned her undergraduate degree in architecture from Ohio State University’s College of Engineering, a foundation that continues to influence the structure and composition of her work.
She is deeply engaged in her local arts community and is a founding member of EPIC, a grassroots organization dedicated to the Education, Promotion, Inspiration, and Connection of local artists, art lovers, and art collectors. Through EPIC and her studio practice, Susan continues to champion creativity, collaboration, and community.
